MHIP is a nonprofit organization that operates according to legislation enacted by the Missouri General Assembly in 1991. Although MHIP is not an insurance company, it is supervised by the Missouri Department of Insurance.

People in the Kansas City area can learn more about high-risk insurance pools and coverage for people with pre-existing conditions this week on Kansas City Public Television's "The Local Show." MHIP Executive Director Vernita McMurtrey and Kansas Health Insurance Association (KHIA) Executive Director Ed Fonner will discuss federal and state programs to help people who need health insurance.
